How to spot fake audio / computer generated audio

You need to get an audio editing program. Once you have that, open the audio in the program. If the graph is too tidy, it's fake.

Wits/Oxford Covid-19 Vaccine Trial, post #2

Image
24 July 2020 So today I went to get the trial shot. I don't know if I got the vaccine or a placebo; it's a double-blind trial. They also gave me a "starter pack" with various things to monitor symptoms; hand sanitiser; a thermometer; and a diary / log to track symptoms. They draw blood every time, which is not pleasant. (But still better than dying of Covid-19). And I have found they pay you a compensation of R 300 per visit. Each visit takes about 2-3 hours. They seem to process about 20 people at a time. They say that side-effects are idiosyncratic to individuals. Some get side-effects from the live vaccine (unsurprisingly), and some get none. Some get side-effects from placebo (psychosomatic) and most get none. So they say you can't tell from the side-effects if it was the vaccine or the placebo that you got.

Detecting fake news

1. Detecting fake news. - Does it make you frightened? - Does it make you angry? - Does it come from social media? - Did you see it on a website with lots of adverts? - Is it sensational? - Does it agree with your existing biases or prejudices? If your answer to any of the above is "yes", it could be fake news. If you answer "yes" to most of the above, it is almost certainly fake. The purpose of fake news is to stir up political sentiment or just to spread like a virus, or sometimes to drive you to a commercial site, e.g. a site that spreads fake news and encourages you to buy a product, such as a conspiracy book or a fake medicine. 2. How to verify Before assuming something is fake news, learn how to verify. - Take the image and upload it into google image search. You can only do this from a laptop or PC. See what the search returns. If it returns lots of sites with similar content, it is probably fake. If it returns links saying it is fake, then it is probably als...

How to do Proper Online Research

Introduction On this page I list common errors people make in doing online research, that is, gathering data online for the purpose of ultimately writing a research document of some sort, e.g., an academic paper, a factual book, etc. I hope this page is helpful to you. If you think it needs some additional pointers mentioned on it, please let me know.
